ONTARIO, CA, November 26, 2002-- Amsino International Inc., a California-based manufacturer of disposable medical devices, entered into an agreement on October 8, 2002 with GI Design Associates, a Massachusetts-based medical device design and development company, granting Amsino the exclusive worldwide rights to manufacture and market the RussoValveTM, a new closed system GI valve equipped with an AMSecureTM needleless syringe port seal.
"The RussoValveTM is convenient, compact, and most importantly, a truly closed-system connector valve that can be used with a wide variety of catheters and tubes", commented Dr. Ching Ching Seah, Director of R&D for Amsino. This unique device is designed to take the place of PEG and g-tube feeding adapters, and 5-in-1 connectors. It has a simple on/off handle for fluid control and a separately functioning syringe port seal. This exclusive syringe port seal opens and closes automatically upon insertion and removal of any 60cc catheter tip irrigation syringe. Thus, the RussoValveTM provides in-line irrigation, medication delivery, or syringe decompression/aspiration without disconnect, remaining closed to the atmosphere at all times. This closed system protects the clinician from potentially infectious splashback events, and the patient from external contamination during suction and drainage, enteral feeding, irrigation/lavage, and medication delivery.
"This is another innovative product from Amsino. The agreement with GI Design sets a precedent for future R&D projects", said Dr. Richard Y. Lee, President & CEO of Amsino. "Amsino will continue to invest in R&D and technical innovation to bring more high quality, innovative, and cost effective products to the marketplace, enabling us to fulfill the specific healthcare requirements of our customers".
"We are extremely pleased with this agreement and the expeditious commercial introduction of the RussoValveTM. The product solves a true problem, is easy to use, and elegant in its simplicity. We look forward to an expansion of our relationship including other GI Design proprietary medical products manufactured exclusively by Amsino", said Shelley J. Buma, Vice President of Marketing for GI Design. "Amsino shares our vision that there is no end to the possibilities of innovation."
Ronald D. Russo, GI Design's Technical Director and inventor of the RussoValveTM and many other enteral devices, considers this product to be "an important addition to the clinical use and maintenance of Salem sump®, Levin, and PEG tubes."
Amsino has showcased the RussoValveTM at both the Atlanta MedTrade and Dusseldorf MEDICA trade shows this year. Initial reaction to the product has been very encouraging, with many distributors and regional sales representatives expressing strong interest. The RussoValveTM is in production now, and is expected to be available for distribution in the United States in December, 2002.
